감자 조림 [gam-ja jo-reem]

One of my favorite Korean sidedishes, known as ban-chan (반찬), is gamja joreem (감자 조림). 감자 (gam-ja) is the Korean word for potato. 조림 (jo-reem) is food boiled down in seasonings, usually soy sauce. For this particular dish, the potatoes are boiled down in a soy sauce based sauce. I mixed soy sauce, garlic, water, and sugar and boiled the potoates down with it until the potates were cooked. I then added sesame seeds and a little a bit of sesame oil.

I know the picture quality isn't that great. I remembered my friends telling me to use a white backgroud or place white underneath for better lighting, but I took this picture too late at night.
Oh wells, I must learn about food photography.
Actually, I need to invest in a DSLR camera first.

C is for Cookie

Today was another baking day with my good friend Jeska. I had to make the classic chocolate chip cookie this time around. It's as my parents always tell me - the foundation has to be strong. What's the foundation of baking? I'd say its cookies. Without further adieu, here are the pictures for the cookies we made.

The second one from the front looks like a face doesn't it? :D

I just love it when the house smells like cookies, kind of like Monica in Friends.

Yummmy. Won't Santa be proud? ^.^
Thus concludes another successful baking day. Now, for my resumes and applications....

Today's song of the day is Super Junior's There's no other Person like you

mocha chocolate cupcakes

One of my biggest eating problems is that if I see it, I want to eat it. On Two and a half men, there was a split 10 seconds where the little boy was eating a chocolate cupcake, which of course inspired me to make my own batch of chocolate cupcakes. Yum yum yum. I used the mocha chocolate cupcake recipes from the chocolate cupcakes website:
http://www.chocolatecupcakes.net/mocha-chocolate-cupcakes/

A fresh batch right out of the oven :D Unfortunately, I substituted vegetable oil with olive oil which made them a bit dry. It was more like chocolate muffins. Oh wells.

In the end though, they tasted great especially with milk. My parents loved them so much, I've been making them for the their guests. Instead of cupcakes though, I just use the batter to make a cake.
